Why Do I Use Essential Oils? - The Self Reliance Shepherd

Why Do I Use Essential Oils?

Why do I choose to use essential oils?

Now this is not going to be a fluffy piece where I tell you that they smell great and have heaps of benefits. If you are even remotely interested in essential oils you would have some inkling about that already.

Rather I’d like to share some experiences that have led to my choice to use them. My hope is that it will strike a chord with you. I am passionate in my belief that essential oils can help you live a healthier life so that you feel in control of your well-being.

For me personally it boils down to two things…

1. Your health is your responsibility

When I was diagnosed with Adenomyosis, the young male doctor who gave me the results told me he knew little about it. I glanced over to look at his computer screen and he was looking up information on Wikipedia.

There is a quote from a google search ‘Who adds information to Wikipedia’

Anyone with Internet access can write and make changes to Wikipedia articles, except in limited cases where editing is restricted to prevent disruption or vandalism. Users can contribute anonymously, under a pseudonym, or, if they choose to, with their real identity”

Great! So the advice I’m being given is by “Anyone with Internet access”

While I was not resentful or angry towards the doctor, it did hit home a very important point.

I am responsible for my own health.

I’ve also interacted with people who just accept their poor health, relying on others to come up with solutions. A diagnosis is made and that’s it. No changes are attempted, no alternatives are sought, in essence they just accept it and wait to die.

That may sound harsh, but unfortunately for some it’s reality.

There are obviously exceptions to this and in some cases that is all that is available to do. Yet for many this is a choice they have made, not the only choice.

It’s up to us to be self-reliant and look after our bodies. I’ve decided it’s not up to “Anyone with Internet access” to educate me or to make improvements, it’s up to me.

That means, as part of my overall health and wellness plan, I have chosen to research and experimented with essential oils.

2. Nature knows best

I trust nature to provide me with tools I need to be healthy and achieve my goals. My belief is that we have developed too great a dependency on the manufactured.

Sometimes I think we forget that we are a part of nature. We often live away from natural spaces and consume artificial products daily.  Our food comes prepackaged, often not even resembling food as nature intended.

Lately there is a bit of a revival of eating whole, natural, organic foods and getting back to nature, like it’s this new concept but nature has always known best.

For centuries man has relied on it to heal, provide nutrition and support a healthy life-style. However as we have evolved and progressed we have become bigger and sicker.

The healing power of nature is why I use essential oils. The Self-Reliance Shepherd

This is not a lecture on obesity or processed food and please don’t take my views as being anti-modern medicine. There have been some terrific and beneficial breakthroughs that have helped thousands of people.

We just seem to be looking to solve our health problems by consuming more of the things that make us feel rubbish in the first place.

I am so grateful for a working mother who refused to buy processed foods, told us stuff from a can would give us cancer and cooked everything from scratch.

I’m honouring her legacy by not succumbing to convenience and supplementing it by using essential oils.

A good quality essential oil lets you utilise the gifts that nature has for us without any additives. She knows how to heal us and is willing to do so, we just need to accept her wisdom.

It is my hope that we all take responsibility for our health and well-being and as we become more self-reliant we can help others to do so too.

Lets look to nature more often to find the good health we all deserve.
