How can I create more harmony in my home?
It’s a valuable question and one that I’ve been asked a few times recently. I took it as a sign that I need to blog about it.
Home after all, is meant to be your sanctuary and safe haven from the outside world. To create lasting harmony, your home needs to be a place of comfort, welcoming and inviting. Essential Oils can support you in creating a loving and well-balanced home.
My top tips are to declutter, deep clean and diffuse to defuse.
3 Ways to Create Harmony at Home Using Essential Oils
Decluttering has two aspects, the physical and the emotional.

Mindfully consider what you are holding on to and why. Those pair of jeans that you will fit into, one day. Are they serving as a motivator to a better you or a reminder of the you, you once were? Or what beliefs, that really don’t sit right with you, are you clinging on to for dear life… “Eat everything on your plate or you can’t leave the dinner table”
Lemongrass Essential Oil is a go to for hoarding or holding on to the past. It is known as the Oil of Cleansing and is a powerful cleanser of energy within your environment.
Use it to support yourself in letting go of beliefs and/or things that you no longer need. You will then clear the way for change and healing.
Lemongrass is great in a diffuser and blends well with citrus oils, such as Wild Orange, Lime and Lemon. Alternatively rub 1 drop, diluted in carrier oil, over your adrenal glands or kidneys.
2. Deep Clean
Once you have cleared out the clutter, turn your attention to cleaning the space you have gained. This will help you set the tone for what you want moving forward.
To give your home the once over, I have my FAB 5 Oils for Cleaning ~ Tea Tree, Purify, Lime, On Guard and Lemon. Include vinegar, bicarb and a bit of elbow grease to make the counter tops gleam and the floor super shiny.
Emotionally, the key area to give a good old scrub to is our second brain, the gut. More and more research and literature is coming to light regarding the brain-gut connection. The healthier you are, particularly in the gut, the better able you are to deal with external stressors.
To clean out the gut I recommend doing doTERRA’s 30 day cleanse. It’s a gentle cleanse and when I did it, it brought up heaps of emotional stuff that was better out than in.

3. Diffuse to Defuse
You’ve decluttered and scrubbed your little heart out, now let’s work on what you do with the clean slate.
Naturally, unpleasant emotions, tension and disagreements are bound to come back up again. To help defuse negativity before it runs rampant, diffuse essential oils. Mind you, the oils are not only for negative energy, even the most harmonious home can benefit from diffusion.
Here are some blends to consider.
- When anger, blame or bitterness visit your home try 2-3 drops of Serenity.
- If anxiety, fear and insecurity turn up for tea, diffuse some Peace or try a blend of 1-2 drops each of Lime, Wild Orange and Bergamot.
- To perk up and motivate a lethargic household diffuse 1 drop of Ginger and Peppermint with 2 drops of Wild Orange or Lemon.
And hey, if you don’t buy into the power Essential Oils have on your emotions, then at the very least your home will smell super yummy.
You may be tempted to skip steps 1 and 2 and go straight to the ‘my home smells gorgeous’ step, but I encourage you to be brave. Diffusing oils are wonderfully supportive, but to make real change get your hands dirty and declutter and deep clean.
