I went to the Daegu Woman’s shelter for the first time this evening. I have to admit I was a little bit nervous, these are all women who are victims of domestic violence, so I didn’t really know what to expect.
The lady who is in charge of the center came to fetch me, at school, lol she even came to the English class room and got me. Mrs Dor Ook Lee, she’s such a sweety and has very warm hands.
Well I tell you I received the best reception ever. This picture below is of the sign they all put up to welcome me.
Isn’t that just amazing!! How sweet is that!
Mrs Lee also asked if I could teach the woman for an hour, from 5-6 then just hang out for an hour and they will teach me how to cook traditional Korean food.
There are 9 women and 1 little boy at the shelter at the moment and we just got to know each other today. They are just such amazing woman, even though my Korean and their English are about at the same level we had a nice chat and laugh. We had sum gap sal (pork in lettuce leaves with side dishes). Man it was sooo good, mostly cause everything is home made.
Tonight to me is just typical of Korean culture, you go to help them and end up getting back so much more.
I’ll keep you all updated and will look at getting some pics of the food too 🙂
